Dr. Michelle M. Hicks, Ed. D, M. Ed.
Dr. Michelle Hicks is an Assistive Technology Resource Teacher and General Education Teacher with over 24 years of experience in Carroll County Public Schools in Maryland. She has 20 years of teaching experience in General and Special Education classroom settings working with Assistive Technology Specialists, related service providers, students, and parents/caregivers. Michelle has taught students with complex needs and exceptionalities ages PreK-21 in a separate public day school and general education setting. She also served as Acting Principal at the separate public day school.
For the past four years, Michelle has been a member of the Assistive Technology Team who services students in 40 schools including five school-based programs: Separate Public Day school, Birth through Kindergarten, Home and Hospital, Transition Connections Academy, and Non-Public schools. Michelle is a sought-after presenter who focuses on topics of AAC, inclusion, adaptive classroom materials, music education strategies, and special education instructional and communication strategies. She has attended AAC courses including but not limited to; multiple 2-day Introductory PODD Workshops, Gayle Porter’s 5-day Advanced PODD Course, and Linda Burkhart’s Multi-Modal Communication, Learning & Access Skills for Children Who Face Severe Physical and Multiple Challenges – 2-day course. Michelle has also co-presented numerous workshops on various topics with Speech Language Pathologist, Assistive Technology Specialist, and certified PODD Trainers.
