Heather Roach, MAT
With over 17 years of experience as a special education teacher, trainer, and consultant, I bring a deep passion and unique insight to supporting individuals who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). As a mom to a complex communicator myself, I understand firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with navigating communication needs, which fuels my commitment to thoughtful, creative solutions.
My work focuses on tailoring AAC supports to fit each individual’s unique communication needs, motor skills, and goals. I collaborate closely with educators, therapists, medical teams, and families to build coordinated, cross-disciplinary support systems that help individuals succeed in all parts of their lives.
I believe the best outcomes happen when everyone works together—whether it’s therapists, teachers, equipment providers, or families—and when everyday activities are seen as opportunities for meaningful communication and learning.
I hold a Bachelor of Science from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Fontbonne University. After more than a decade in special education classrooms, I now dedicate my time to training and consulting, helping families and teams navigate complex educational and communication needs.
In December 2024, after seven years of dedicated study and practice, I was honored to earn certification as an officially recognized PODD presenter, joining a small group of only 12 individuals in the United States with this distinction. This training strengthens my ability to support complex communicators with evidence-based, person-centered approaches.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to empower families and teams to create supportive, inclusive environments where communication is possible everywhere, and every individual can thrive.
